Understanding anxiety and healing your nervous system
Does This Sound Familiar?
You find yourself lying in bed at 11 pm, mind still spinning through tomorrow's to-do list, a random conversation, and anything that could go wrong. Or sitting down to work on something and finding yourself either paralyzed by perfectionism or so deep in the weeds that two hours have gone by. You're exhausted, but struggle to know how to settle your brain.
If any of the following resonates, you're in the right place:
Your thoughts move so fast that it's hard to know what you're actually feeling
People know you as the person who handles everything
You overwork a task till you feel it’s perfect or avoid it entirely
Even in quiet moments, your mind is scanning for what's next, what's wrong, what you might have missed
Anxiety isn't a flaw. It's your nervous system working overtime to protect you. The problem is, it doesn't always know when the danger has passed or isn’t an actual threat.
You Are Not Alone, And You Are Not Broken
Anxiety is a very common reason people seek therapy, and for good reason, it thrives in our current world. Instant access to news, texts, social media, and work at all hours means your nervous system rarely gets a true signal that it's safe to rest. What was once a survival response to stay alert and stay ready has become a constant background hum that follows you.
When it comes to anxiety, it often has deep roots. For many people, overfunctioning began as a coping strategy at some point in life, and it’s worked. Anxiety is not something that just happened to you; it developed with purpose. Understanding that purpose is where healing can begin.
"Anxiety is not who you are. It is a part of you that learned to protect the rest."

How Anxiety Therapy in Denver Can Help
Starting to heal from anxiety isn't about eliminating it, but about understanding it. In our work together, we'll move beneath just the physiological symptoms and toward the emotions, attachment patterns, and inner narratives that have been driving your anxiety for years.
I work primarily through an Internal Family Systems (IFS) informed and Emotionally Focused Individual Therapy (EFIT) lens. These modalities share a core belief that anxiety is not the enemy. It is a part of you that has been working hard to protect something deeper, which can often be rooted in fear.
Sessions with me are collaborative, warm, and structured around where you are right now. We move at your pace. There's no pressure to "figure it out" immediately. Instead, we'll build a relationship with the part of you that's been carrying so much.
What Therapy for Anxiety Looks Like
Step 1: Understand the Roots
We start by exploring your family patterns, your attachment history, and the origins of the anxiety. We'll develop compassion for this part of you and help you build a new relationship with anxiety when it arises, rather than fighting or fleeing from it.
Step 2: Understand the Story
The anxiety holds a story. Maybe it says you're only lovable when you're productive. Maybe it says that if you stop overthinking, something will fall apart. We'll examine how you've made meaning of anxiety, within yourself and in your relationships, and begin to loosen the grip of the stories.
Step 3: Connect and Regulate
Through mindfulness exercises, we'll slow down to reach the emotions underneath the anxiety, whether that be fear of failure, fear of not being enough, or fear of being left. We'll build real skills for self-regulation, identify safe people and spaces in your life, and create change for your nervous system.
Why This Approach Works
Both IFS and EFIT are modalities with strong clinical support for anxiety, emotion regulation, and relational healing. What makes them particularly effective for anxiety is that they don't just teach coping skills; they address the underlying emotional experiences that keep the nervous system on high alert.

FAQS
-
Not all therapy is the same and sometimes your previous therapy experience wasn’t the right fit for several reasons, and we can talk about that. Sometimes IFS/EFIT can feel different because it gets beyond the surface-level and just "talking about" problems, and to the root of the anxiety and nervous system response.
-
Carving out time for one 50-minute session per week can begin to create the space your nervous system needs. Many clients find that investing in therapy actually gives them time back, because they're spending less time avoiding, overthinking, and intentionally slowing down.
-
The answer depends on the client. Some people enjoy having therapy as a part of their routine long-term, and others like to have a specific goal to work on and terminate when they’ve met that goal. We can discuss this during a 20-minute consultation call!

I am an out-of-network provider and do not bill insurance directly. Insurance companies often require a diagnosis and can limit the type of care you receive.
If you'd like to use your benefits, I can provide a superbill, which is an itemized receipt you can submit to your insurance for out-of-network reimbursement. We recommend contacting your insurance provider to find out what your out-of-network coverage includes.
